Writer Praised for Watts Piece

I really enjoyed reading “The Reality of Living in Watts.” I do not recall getting so much pleasure from reading an article in Metro.
I’m going to give this article to a friend who is an educator in Watts. I hope the kids there get as much out of it as I did.
Much of what Mr. Harris writes about is mirrored in my own community of East Los Angeles. I see the minors, the pregnant teens, the underemployed young families. I used to be one of the kids who didn’t even know where Beverly Hills was. Things have changed in my community. People are a little more affluent.
The people I grew up with have moved to “better places.” I don’t know if I’ll move or not. When I come back to L.A. from a business trip I don’t feel at home until I got on Whittier Boulevard and I hae those last few miles.
Thanks for such a fine article. I truly enjoyed Mr. Harris’ style.
