Cold Remains Common Despite Body’s Memory

WASHINGTON — The human body’s system has a memory that won’t quit.

Each time a person suffers a common cold, for example, the person acquires a limited immunity, which enables the body to immediately recognize that particular virus as an enemy should the virus show up again.

Unfortunately, there are many other cold-producing viral strains to which the body does not develop immunity. This explains why the cold is common.
