Governor’s Prison Plan Revived

Associated Press

Gov. George Deukmejian’s emergency prison construction plan, which was stripped of all funds and most major projects by an Assembly committee last week, was brought back to life and sent to the Assembly floor by another committee today.

“It is substantially resurrected. I’m very encouraged,” said the principal author of Deukmejian’s plan, Sen. Robert Presley (D-Riverside), after his bill, SB 253, was sent to the full Assembly on a 16-0 vote of the Ways and Means Committee.
