Maginot Line Facts

I found Bruce Hamby’s July 21 article about northeast France very interesting. However, his account of the Maginot Line and World War II is quite out of historic truth. Germans never made a frontal attack on the impregnable line. In the Battle of Flanders (June, 1940) the French and British armies were defeated. Shortly after that the Maginot Line (defenders) surrendered without a fight. It is well known that the French built the Maginot Line based on the brilliant performance of the fortifications at Verdun during World War I.
