Sakharov’s Stepson Ends Fast

WASHINGTON — Alexei Semyonov, stepson of Nobel Peace Prize-winning Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov, ended a 14-day hunger strike today. He said the State Department has made locating his parents a top priority.
Semyonov, 29, who lives in Newton, Mass., said he was contacted by the State Department on Wednesday and “at this time, I think the continuation of my fast will not serve the purpose of helping my parents.” He spoke at a Capitol Hill news conference where he took a sip of apple juice to break his fast.
