An Orange County man who was arrested on a drug charge while he was free on bail pending appeal of a 25-year sentence in an earlier drug case has been sentenced to a second 25 years in federal prison. U.S. District Judge James M. Ideman, in imposing the term, called Mark Steven McFarlane, 30, of San Clemente, a “major cocaine dealer” whose first prison sentence had not deterred him from crime. McFarlane was appealing a sentence he received on his guilty plea to drug charges in connection with his role in a major cocaine ring when he was arrested again, and subsequently convicted, of having been the behind-the-scenes operator of a scheme to buy two kilograms of cocaine from dealers who turned out to be undercover federal drug agents.
