The story (Sept. 15) on the campaign against California Chief Justice Rose Elizabeth Bird quotes my comments on the failure of lawyers to rally to the defense of the court without making it clear that I am a vigorous supporter of retention of all the justices.
I have been frustrated by the blindness of many in the legal community to the fact that, whatever one may think of individual justices or their opinions, a political drive to unseat any judge is inevitably a threat to the integrity and independence of the judicial system.
