Felton, Calif — Winding up Bear Mountain, the Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow-Guage Railroad is an authentic reminder of 19th-Century California and the pioneer days of the American West.
The 6.5-mile round-trip steam train excursion takes a little more than an hour and operates every day (except Christmas) beginning at noon, departing from the Roaring Camp Depot, a replica of an 1880s depot.
Country barbecues are available to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays through October or picnic lunches may be enjoyed in nearby Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
Roaring Camp is in Felton, six miles north of Santa Cruz on Graham Hill Road. Adult fares are $8.75, children’s fares $75. For information call (408) 335-4484.
