Six Mayan artifacts that were slightly damaged in the moving of a display case at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History will be restored without any appreciable loss in value. Charles Gallenkamp, coordinator for the “Maya: Treasures of an Ancient Civilization” exhibit, called the damage to four carved bone heads, an ear decoration and a Guatemalan ceramic bowl “extremely minor.” The items were chipped when the case lid slammed down, he said. Value of the pieces was not disclosed.
