11 Rebels Reported Killed in Colombia

BOGOTA, Colombia — Police killed 11 leftist rebels, including three women, in clashes in the capital Monday, Police Chief Jose Luis Vargas reported. Four policemen were wounded and seven guerrillas captured.
Vargas said that about 25 guerrillas of the M-19 movement were intercepted handing out stolen food and milk to residents of a poor neighborhood. Five guerrillas died in the ensuing gun battle, and six more were killed during a police chase in nearby districts, four of them shot in a public bus by a plainclothes policeman.
