With 12 home runs Sunday, the American League established a major league record of 2,087 for a single season, breaking the mark of 2,080 set in 1982.
At the present rate of 1.92 homers per game, the 14 AL teams will hit 2,171 if all 44 games still scheduled are played. Baltimore, with 205 homers, leads the league, followed by Detroit’s 193.
