A man described by authorities as a lone operator with an “interest in white hate groups” was indicted by a San Francisco federal grand jury in one bombing, three bomb attempts and possession of a fifth bomb that was found at a rabbi’s house. Coy Ray Phelps, 51, of San Francisco was arrested on charges related to four pipe bombs that had been found in the city in the last five months, one of which exploded at the office of the Humanist Party. The others were found at a synagogue, a Jewish community center and San Francisco State University. The indictment expands the charges to include a bomb that was found at the home of Rabbi Jacob Traub, the U.S. attorney’s office said. His lawyer has said the charges are a product of Phelps’ political views rather than of any evidence against him. Phelps is being held without bail.
