An Oceanside man was killed late Thursday when he was struck by a pickup truck after being chased into the street by witnesses who saw him break a window at an apartment complex’s laundry room.
Tommy Alvarez, 20, was pronounced dead at Tri-City Hospital after he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Timothy Harrell, 21, a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside Police Sgt. Bill Krunglevich said. Harrell was neither cited nor charged, Krunglevich said.
Alvarez fled from witnesses who saw him break a window at the laundry room of the Centurion Apartments in the 100 block of Canyon Drive.
As he fled, he ran north across Mission Avenue and was struck by Harrell, who was headed east, Krunglevich said.
