CORONADO — An Imperial Beach man died and a woman with him was seriously injured when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday.
A 37-year-old construction worker was arrested in connection with the 12:20 a.m. incident after he turned himself in to police Sunday afternoon, police said.
According to a Coronado Police spokeswoman, witnesses said Timothy Alan Wilson, 27, and Donna Mazzara, 35, were walking on the beach about 500 yards north of Palm Avenue where Imperial Beach joins Coronado when they were struck by a four-wheel drive vehicle being driven along the beach without lights. The driver reportedly did not stop.
However, police dispatcher Michael Foster said Mark William Stanley of Imperial Beach “surrendered himself to police custody” and was booked on suspicion of manslaughter.
