3,000 Strike at County Offices

More than 3,000 Los Angeles County employees walked off their jobs today at 25 of the county’s 32 welfare payment offices as well as at other agencies in a limited strike protesting the absence of a new contract.
County officials said that at least 2,663 welfare office workers were off the job and that the walkout, principally by clerical employees, apparently also had spread to other county offices. Hundreds did not show up at the Children’s Services, Registrar-Recorder’s and Treasurer-Tax Collector departments.
