An Encinitas man shot and killed his wife, then killed himself Monday morning in the 200 block of La Veta Avenue, said Lt. Bill Baxter of the Sheriff’s Department homicide unit. Wesley K. Orendorff, 72, and his 65-year-old wife, Robbye L. Orendorff, were found in bed by their son about 10 a.m. Monday with gunshot wounds to the head, Baxter said.
According to the couple’s son, Karl Orendorff, the two were in the process of obtaining a divorce after 40 years of marriage. He said his father felt he was not getting a fair deal with the financial aspects of the divorce after speaking with his attorney.
“He was upset and figured she was getting the better half (of the divorce),” Karl Orendorff said.
Baxter said Wesley Orendorff’s wounds appeared to be self-inflicted. A Luger revolver was found at the scene, Baxter said.
