SAN LUIS OBISPO — Twenty-one people at a Dead Kennedys rock concert were arrested early Friday after a melee in which firemen had to use high-pressure water blasts to tame rock- and bottle-hurling fans, police said.
Police called to the Veterans Memorial Building at 10:15 p.m. Thursday were greeted by a mob swinging from chandeliers and breaking windows, Sgt. Joe Hazouri said. He said 400 to 500 fans were attending the concert.
About 50 officers from the California Highway Patrol, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department, and Morro Bay and Atascadero police were called in to assist local police, he said. The Fire Department was finally called in to hose down the crowd.
The 21 arrested were booked for investigation of charges ranging from assault to disorderly conduct, Hazouri said.
A teen-ager broke his arm during the fracas; otherwise there were no injuries, he said.
