Fluor Corp. said Monday that it will begin construction of a natural gas recovery plant in the People’s Republic of China under a contract reached with the China National Technical Import Corp.
A spokesman for the Irvine engineering and construction firm declined to disclose the value of the contract, citing Fluor’s agreement with China National, a government-run corporation.
Fluor China Services Inc., which was formed in 1984 to handle the company’s growing Chinese operations, will build the recovery plant in Liaoning Province, located northeast of Beijing. The NGL plant will process gases generated by crude oil production at the Liao He oil field.
The contract also calls for Fluor to train workers for the Chinese Ministry of Petroleum Industry in the design, installation and operation of such plants.
Preliminary engineering work will start before the end of the year and the project is expected to be completed in 1987, the spokesman said.
