Emulex Profits Drop 39% on Slow Sales

Blaming the continued soft market for business computers, Emulex Corp., a Costa Mesa computer parts maker, said its first-quarter profits plunged 39% on stagnant sales.
For the period ended Sept. 30, the company posted a $1.4 million profit, compared to $2.3 million in the year-ago period. Revenues were $24.4 million, compared to $24.2 million last year.
Although profits were below those of a year ago, Emulex chairman Fred B. Cox noted that the earnings had increased from the immediately preceding quarter and said the company was heartened by its progress.
