Sockers Lose in Overtime, 6-5

Peter Ward scored with 1:35 remaining in overtime to lead the Cleveland Force past the San Diego Sockers, 6-5, Thursday night before 3,000 fans in an exhibition match at the Broome County Center in Binghamton, N.Y.
Ward also scored with 1:06 remaining in regulation play to force the overtime period.
San Diego, which fell to 2-1 in exhibition action, was led by reserve Waad Hirmez with two goals. Socker management decided against sending most of its regulars to the two-game series with Cleveland, which concludes tonight in Glen Falls, N.Y.
