The United States scored a 5-3 victory over the Soviet Union in the 1985 USA-USSR heavyweight boxing invitational series at Atlantic City, N.J.
With the U.S. leading, 4-3, entering the final match, Wesley Watson of the U.S. Military Academy stopped Valery Abadzhian 50 seconds into the second round to win the super-heavyweight bout.
The win was the second for the United States in the series, which continues Wednesday at Troy, N.Y.
