Paul Newman won his first GT-1 national championship, taking first place in the Valvoline Road Racing Classic at Road Atlanta in Baselton, Ga.
The actor-racer, driving a Nissan 300ZX Turbo, beat teammate Jim Fitzgerald of Clemmons, N.C., by 1.2 seconds in the 18-lap, 45-mile Sports Car Club of America race.
