The Five-member board of education of the Lynwood Unified School District on Tuesday unanimously approved the purchase of 5-acres of land for $1.2-million from the state Department of Transportation.
The district is currently leasing the property, where Vista continuation high school and other district facilities are located, from Caltrans for an estimated $3,700 a month.
The state Department of Education allocated the money to the district two years ago for the purchase of property for a continuation high school.
The district had searched for other property but found the Caltrans’ property less expensive, said Helen Andersen, board president.
The district expects to renovate the continuation high school buildings when state funds become available, Andersen said.
