The Bell Gardens City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, has authorized negotiations for the purchase of property at 5616-22 Ludell St., across the street from a Toys ‘R Us shopping center.
Councilman Allen Shelby said the land, which now contains three small houses and a self-service laundry, eventually will be used for municipal parking. “It’s far better to buy at a good price than to wait and pay more,” he said. The purchase price is approximately $197,000.
He said the city could use the lot for overflow parking from the shopping center, which contains a number of variety stores and eating establishments.
