Sherman Indian Boys Easily Win 1-A Title in Mt. San Antonio Cross-Country Event

Sherman Indian’s boys had little trouble winning the Mt. San Antonio Invitational Division One cross-country race for Class 1-A schools Friday at Mt. San Antonio College.
The Braves scored 54 points to outdistance Nordhoff (75) and Cathedral (95). John Trafecanty was the individual winner in 15:55, the fastest time of the day.
In a race for 2-A and 3-A schools, Walnut scored 26 points, placing five runners in the top nine and recording a team time of 84:11, one minute faster than Sherman Indian. Freshman Scott Hemple of Walnut won the race in 16:16.
In girls’ competition, Walnut won the top race for 2-A and 3-A schools with 55 points and a team time of 101:16. Senior Chris Morgan of Bell-Jeff was the individual winner with the fastest time of the day, 18:33.
Maranatha won the race for the top 1-A schools with 78 points and a team time of 110:07, defeating Paraclete (91) and Twentynine Palms (114).
The meet continues today, beginning at 8 a.m. The boys and girls sweepstakes races are scheduled between 10 and 11 a.m. and will include many of the best distance runners in the state.
