Construction has started on Pomona Towne Center, a five-year redevelopment plan for 17 city blocks in downtown Pomona that will result in about 1,300 rental units.
The project is expected to cost more than $60-million, according to developer Warren L. Bauer of the Bauer Redevelopment Group. In the first two phases are The Plaza, with 280 one- and two-bedroom apartments and The Park, a senior-citizen complex with 288 one- and two-bedroom apartments.
Also to be built in the first two phases of the four-phase development will be a small commercial center and a rental storage facility with about 500 units, Bauer said.
Pomona Towne Center is bounded by 1st Street on the north, Mission Boulevard on the south, Towne Avenue on the east and Gibbs Street on the west. The city acquired the land through its redevelopment agency.
