Manhattan Beach : Club Additions Approved
- Share via
The City Council this week approved a pavilion restaurant, storage building and guard entry post for the Manhattan Country Club, which is located on city-owned land just east of Manhattan Village Mall.
The club also received a variance allowing it to provide two fewer parking spaces than the city code calls for. The club argued that little additional parking will be needed because only club members will be allowed to use the restaurant.
The parking variance was passed on a 2-2 vote over the strong objections of Councilwoman Jan Dennis and Mayor Gil Archuletta, who argued that the facility has already been granted waivers to the city’s parking codes. The council’s tie vote meant that the Planning Commission approval of the variance was upheld.
Plans for the restaurant, storage building and guard posts were approved on a 3-1 vote, with Archuletta dissenting.
Councilman Russ Lesser abstained from both votes because he is a club member.
