Four people were honored by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund for their efforts on behalf of the Latino community. United Press International Chairman Luis Nogales was given the fund’s 1985 Distinguished Achievement Award. David E. Anderson, president and chief executive officer of General Telephone Co. of California, was given the Corporate Responsibility Award. Graciela Olivarez, former fund president and Albuquerque television station owner, received the Valerie Kantor Award for Extraordinary Achievement. The group’s Legal Services Award went to Manuel Ruiz, 81, former chairman of the Hispanic Division of the Republican National Committee.
