Allies Stick With Missile Plans

BRUSSELS — NATO foreign ministers today cited “encouraging developments” in East-West relations since the Geneva summit but vowed to press ahead with the deployment of nuclear missiles in Western Europe.
In a final communique issued at the conclusion of their semi-annual meeting, the allies reiterated support for American efforts to reach an arms control agreement with Moscow. But it also said that in the absence of an accord, the deployment of 572 medium-range missiles over a five-year period will continue.
