Former Yankee teammates, sportscaster Howard Cosell and former President Nixon were among those who attended a memorial service for Roger Maris in New York’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral, giving the home run slugger a final standing ovation.
Cosell delivered the eulogy before an audience of about 4,500 people.
Maris died Dec. 14 at age 51 after a two-year battle with lymphatic cancer. He was buried last week in Fargo, N.D., his hometown.
