Oceanside police arrested a National City man Tuesday on suspicion of murder in the death of a 25-year-old Oceanside woman who was killed when she was thrown from the pickup truck she was driving.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect, Alfred Boby Austin, 31, beating the victim, Mary Alvarez, in the truck shortly before it crashed, police said. Alvarez was pronounced dead at the scene early Monday after being thrown from the truck shortly before it crashed off Airport Road near Oceanside Airport.

Austin, who was injured in the crash, was arrested and booked at UCSD Medical Center, where he is being held under guard. He was reported in good condition Tuesday.
