BEETHOVEN: OVERTURES. Klaus Tennstedt conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra. EMI-Angel Compact Disc CDC 7 47086 2. These are the kinds of B+ performances that never quite achieve A quality. Tennstedt wastes no time in tackling five overtures (“Fidelio,” “Leonore” No. 3, “Prometheus,” “Coriolan” and “Egmont”) with gusto and respect. What is lacking is passion, drama, fury. The CD sound re-creates these workmanlike accounts with relentless precision.
