38 Dead, 56 Missing in Indonesia Ship Sinking

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Rough seas hampered search efforts Tuesday for 56 people missing after a passenger ship caught fire northeast of Jakarta and sank, killing at least 38 people, a navy spokesman said.
The Murina IV, carrying at least 300 passengers and crew members through the Makassar Straits, 727 miles northeast of Jakarta, caught fire Saturday morning. A spokesman for Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue operation said 206 people were rescued from the water and 38 bodies were recovered, leaving 56 people still missing.
