DETROIT — A federal court jury Wednesday acquitted a former United Auto Workers officer of 10 counts of embezzling union funds.
Federal prosecutors alleged that Robert (Buddy) Battle, 68, former director of UAW Region 1-A, misused $65,000 in union money to pay for a luxury car, health club memberships and exercise equipment. Battle contended that the fund from which the money was taken was not a union asset and was for use at his discretion.
