The Minnesota Twins have signed 11 players who have agreed to take part in a drug-testing program, the Minneapolis Star and Tribune reported.
The Twins plan to follow a program modeled after the one Peter Ueberroth, the baseball commissioner, proposed last year. It already has been implemented in the minor leagues and calls for random, unannounced testing with results to be kept confidential.
Players who have signed contracts with a testing clauses are John Butcher, Randy Bush, Pete Filson, Mike Smithson, Ron Washington, Charlie Mitchell, Ramon Romero, Eric Broersma, Tom Burns, Mark Davidson and Les Straker.
