UCI Women’s Tennis Team Takes Third in Tournament

The UC Irvine women’s tennis team defeated Washington, 7-2, Sunday to take third place in the University of Arizona Invitational in Tucson.
Arizona State beat Arizona, 8-1, in the championship match.
The Anteaters (6-6) got singles victories from No. 2 player Lola Trenwith, who beat Chris Wagner, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, No. 3 Uma Rao, who defeated Monique Matheson, 7-5, 7-5, No. 4 Kathy Rose, who beat Kristen Wood, 6-2, 7-5, and No. 6 Colleen Patton, who defeated Vanessa Calvert 6-3, 6-0.
UCI swept the three doubles matches.
The Anteaters will face Brigham Young on Friday in the first round of the BYU indoor tournament in Provo, Utah.
In men’s action:
South Carolina 5, Chapman 1--The Panthers lost to Gamecocks (2-1), who are ranked second in Division I. Chapman (3-1) is ranked No. 1 in Division II.
The Panthers will play Cal State Northridge Wednesday at Chapman.
