Assembly Committee Action:

Pornography: The Assembly Ways and Means Committee approved a bill (SB 139) by Sen. Wadie P. Deddeh (D-Chula Vista) to redefine pornography by applying new legal standards designed to make it easier to convict people who sell obscene material. A 12-1 vote sent the bill to the Assembly floor.

VDTs: The Assembly Labor and Employment Committee approved a bill (AB 2742) by Assemblyman Richard E. Floyd (D-Hawthorne) to require a state study of any possible occupational safety and health hazards connected with the use of video display terminals. An 11-1 vote sent the bill to the Ways and Means Committee.

Miscellany Oops!: There was one small problem with the original press release distributed to the state Capitol press corps announcing that Orange County Supervisor Bruce Nestande had decided to run for the Republican nomination for secretary of state instead of lieutenant governor. Nowhere did it mention Nestande’s name. A second corrected version came around quickly after reporters called to point out the omission.
