It Isn’t Confirmed, but Loyola Players Say NIT Bid Assured

Loyola Marymount University, which enjoyed its most successful basketball season in 18 years, has apparently been invited to its first National Invitation Tournament.
Loyola officials and the NIT office in New York would not comment Thursday, but Loyola players learned of the invitation after their last game Wednesday.
The pairings will be announced Sunday. Loyola is expected to play its first game next Wednesday or Thursday against another Southland team--possibly UCLA or UC Irvine.
The Lions finished the regular season Wednesday with an 87-82 loss at Pepperdine for an 18-10 record, their best since the 1967-68 season. They finished second to the Waves in the West Coast Athletic Conference.
Loyola went to the NCAA tournament in 1960, 1961 and 1980 but has never appeared in the NIT.
