Southwest Defeats Grossmont, 73-71

SAN DIEGO — Bruce Chew of Los Angeles’ Southwest College scored four of his game-high 20 points in the final 22 seconds of play to lift the Cougars’ basketball team to a 73-71 win over Grossmont College Saturday night in the South Region California State Community College championship.
With the score tied, 69-69, Chew stole the ball and drove the distance of the court for a slam. Moments later, Chew was fouled and added two free throws. Grossmont (27-5) was led by Tyrone Muldrow’s 15 points. The Cougars (28-4) extended their winning streak to 12 games.
