Paris Bomb Kills 1, Injures 29

PARIS — A bomb exploded in a crowded shopping arcade on the fashionable Champs Elysees in central Paris today, killing one person and injuring 29 others, nine of them seriously,officials said.
The blast ripped through the shopping arcade minutes after a new premier, Jacques Chirac, the conservative mayor of Paris, was officially designated by Socialist President Francois Mitterrand. (Story on Page 2.) Police sources said a second bomb was found and detonated harmlessly in Paris’ main subway station.
