The Administration is rethinking an energy policy.

Plunging crude oil prices are causing the Reagan Administration to reconsider its opposition to continued filling of the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve, Energy Secretary John S. Herrington said. “The time is now to re-examine,” Herrington told the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Herrington said he instructed his staff to study the impact of the price decrease on filling the petroleum reserve that was created to lessen the impact of a shut-off of foreign crude. Herrington cautioned that the Administration has not yet changed its opposition to halting the filling process.
