Weinberger to Meet Aquino

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger will meet with new Philippines President Corazon Aquino during a two-week Pacific visit to American allies, the Pentagon said today.
Weinberger will arrive in the Philippines on April 6 and meet with Aquino on April 7, Pentagon spokesman Robert Sims said. Weinberger will be the first U.S. Cabinet officer to call on Aquino. The Pentagon has said it wants to assist the Philippines’ armed forces in fighting off a communist insurgency that has grown in strength in recent years.
