Furillo Draws Praise, but Hawk Will Be Missed

Please do not ask me why, but I enjoy “Sportstalk” on KABC the best when Bud Furillo is at the microphone alone. He is a maestro at work. We, the listeners, are the orchestra. He moves us with his talks mercurially. We know his heart may not always be wise, but what he tells us is not ersatz. That’s why we call him Steamer .

Bud gives us items that are not found in the papers. They are his to tell from his long empirical knowledge. We hear not only the facts, but his interesting mind. Some co-host tried to imitate Bud but couldn’t. I thank KABC for letting us enjoy this rare form on the air.
