San Diego College Baseball : Trafton Leads USD Past UC Irvine, 8-0

SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego, behind Mark Trafton’s 4 for 4 performance, beat UC Irvine, 8-0, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at USD.
Trafton had three singles and a triple and scored twice, and teammate Dave Jacas was 2 for 4 with two RBIs to pace the Toreros (19-16-2). USD pitcher Tom Sizer (7-5) went the distance, striking out six.
UC Irvine is 12-16-2.
UC San Diego 12, LaVerne 0--Dan DiMascio was 4 for 5, including three doubles and two RBIs to lead UCSD (11-14-1). Bob Natal hit his seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot in the eighth. Starter Mark Sloan (5-2) pitched five innings, allowing three hits and striking out six. The Leopards are 11-13.
Hawaii 10, San Diego State 6--A seven-run second-inning outburst helped the Rainbows complete a four-game sweep of the Aztecs in the Western Athletic Conference series opener for both teams in Honolulu. Jay Vierra (7-2) pitched the final 4 innings to pick up the win for Hawaii, 25-11 overall and 4-0 in the WAC. Scott Lawrence (3-1) was the starter and loser for SDSU.
After Hawaii scored seven in the second the Aztecs closed to 7-6, scoring two runs in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth. Hawaii scored twice in the seventh and once in the eighth to put the game away.
SDSU (0-4, 20-15-1) will play BYU in a doubleheader at Provo, Utah, Saturday. The Cougars swept a four-game series from Utah over the weekend and are tied with Hawaii for first place.
