The World : 2 Israeli Officers Convicted

An Israeli court convicted two army officers of complicity in bombings carried out by an anti-Arab group. Maj. Shlomo Leviatan and Capt. Ronnie Gila were found guilty of failing to prevent bombing attacks against three Palestinian mayors June 2, 1980. The district court in Jerusalem ruled that the officers, who were serving in the military administration of the West Bank, had known that the Jewish underground was planning the bombings. No sentencing date was set. Two of the Palestinian mayors were maimed in the attacks.
