Police were searching Tuesday for Rafael Calderon Barragan, a 32-year-old laborer suspected of fatally shooting his roommate, Police Lt. Jack Nelson said.
The victim, Gabriel Ortega Garcia, was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot several times with a .22-caliber rifle. He was 25 years old and employed as a laborer, Nelson said.
Barragan is believed to have fled the house in his green, 1971 Ford Pinto, with the rifle still in hand, Nelson said.
Neighbors heard shouting in the 300 block of Ross Street, then several gun shots, according to police.
