FBI Agent Who Ended Gunfight Leaves Hospital

SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. — The FBI agent who killed two robbery suspects despite being wounded by a rifle blast went home from the hospital Thursday to the cheers of nurses and other medical personnel.
Special Agent Edmundo Mireles, 33, ended the gunfight that killed two other agents and wounded five in what has been called the FBI’s bloodiest day.
Mireles, his left arm in a cast and sling, spoke briefly to reporters before leaving South Miami Hospital with his wife, Elizabeth, also an FBI agent. “I want to thank all the members of my squad . . . and the rest of FBI field office,” he said. “I also want to thank the public. I’ve received hundreds of letters from people and school children with their support and prayers.”
Mireles, an FBI agent for six years, also thanked his doctors, nurses, paramedics and the helicopter crew that airlifted him from the scene of the April 11 shoot-out.
