A Highland Park man was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run after an accident that claimed two lives. Covina police said Stephen Avalos, 18, was driving a van that collided with a car driven by Dionicio Erazo, 31, at the corner of Vincent Avenue and San Bernardino Road. The van overturned, but Avalos and his 16-year-old girlfriend climbed out and were whisked from the scene in another car, driven by friends. Erazo died at the scene; his wife, Maria, 35, was dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. Avalos was arrested about eight hours later at his girlfriend’s house.
