Ropak Corp., a Fullerton-based maker of plastic pails and other containers, said it has completed its acquisition of Can-Am Containers Ltd. of Springhill, Nova Scotia, for $4.2 million (Canadian) in cash. Ropak said it financed the purchase by using its $12.5-million bank credit.
Can-Am produces plastic pails and barrels, product handling totes and seedling trays, mainly for Canadian agricultural and fishing industries. The closely held company, which employs about 120 workers, earned about $1 million (Canadian) on sales of $10.2 million in 1985.
William H. Roper, chairman and chief executive of Ropak, said that the consolidation would increase Ropak’s market penetration in the agriculture and fishing industries. With the addition of Can-Am Containers, Ropak has six plants in the United States and Canada.
