MARSEILLES, France — Two bombs exploded Saturday in an immigrant quarter of this Mediterranean city, damaging property but causing no injuries, police said.
The bombs, planted in rubbish bins, exploded within minutes of each other outside a hotel used mainly by Arab workers and as a center for African immigrants.
A previously unknown group, the French Commando Against the Maghreb Invasion, later claimed responsiblity for the explosions in a telephone call to a Paris news agency.
Marseilles has one of France’s biggest North African immigrant populations and has been the scene of a number of racist attacks.
